Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Interpret plans and specifications
   • Determine overall plan in consultation with landholder and surveyor
   • Establish earthworks specifications in consideration of desired outcome and prevailing conditions
   • Verify plan in line with job requirements
2. Relate plan to site
   • Locate key plan points on site
   • Identify additional features on site plan
   • Identify and record site issues which affect survey and pegging
3. Peg project
   • Establish pegging sequence in consultation with the site surveyor
   • Measure site dimensions in compliance with job specification
   • Establish peg locations using prescribed methods
   • Peg earthworks in line with project specification
   • Advise all construction personnel of pegging and the need for site integrity

Performance Evidence

The candidate must be assessed on their ability to integrate and apply the performance requirements of this unit in a workplace setting. Performance must be demonstrated consistently over time and in a suitable range of contexts.

The candidate must provide evidence that they can:

set out conservation earthworks

identify hazards and ensure the safety of self, field operators and any other person on site

interpret plans and specifications

relate plan to site

measure out site dimensions precisely and peg project

protect site

different types of survey equipment

civil engineering and survey techniques applicable to conservation earthworks

erosion control and design principles

principles of native topsoil conservation and protection
